Metals
Gold or silver? Metals by Chromara House
Jewelry is the fastest public color analysis. Chromara splits it cleanly: warm Houses take gold; cool Houses take silver.
Why metal matters
Metal sits on the face. It is a drape you already own. If the metal is the wrong temperature, foundation looks busier, teeth look greyer, and the jaw picks up a shadow that is not fatigue.
Chromara does not do “everyone can wear mixed metals” as a first rule. Mixed metals are a styling trick after the House is named. The first rule is temperature.
The jewelry test
Daylight, hair off the collarbone, little or no makeup. Wear a yellow-gold necklace or hoop for two minutes. Then swap to silver, white gold, or platinum. Watch the chin, the under-eye, and the sides of the mouth — not whether you “like gold.”
Warm metal that belongs will make the skin look more even and the eyes more awake. Wrong metal will do one of two things: add a grey film, or add a yellow stain. Cool metal that belongs looks like light. Wrong cool metal looks like pewter dust.
Repeat with rose gold if you have it. Rose gold is warm. It usually sits with Vela, sometimes with Kora, almost never as the hero metal for Nira or Sable.
Vela and Kora: gold
House Vela takes yellow gold, rose gold, and warm brass. The face is sunlit. Cream, coral, and aqua want a warm glint at the ear. White metals flatten Vela the way icy grey flattens a peach blush.
House Kora takes antique gold, bronze, copper, and brushed brass. High-shine pale yellow gold can look a little thin on a deep Kora face; heavier, older gold looks harvested, which is the point. Silver on Kora often reads as cool grey next to olive or bronze skin.
If gold has always felt like “your” metal, you are on the Vela/Kora side of the studio. Instant and a drape still have to choose light-clear (Vela) versus deep-muted (Kora).
Nira and Sable: silver
House Nira takes silver, white gold, pewter, and platinum. The House is rose and ash. Yellow gold next to dusty rose usually looks costume-warm. Pewter and silver disappear into the palette the way they should.
House Sable takes platinum, bright silver, white gold, and gunmetal. Sable can hold true red and black; it can hold ice. Yellow gold on a Sable face often fights the contrast — it warms a structure that wants to stay cool and graphic.
If silver has always been the jewelry you actually wear, you are on the Nira/Sable side. Soft-muted is Nira. Deep-clear is Sable.
Mixed metals, watches, hardware
After the House is named, mix on purpose. A Vela client can wear a silver watch if the necklace at the face is gold. A Sable client can wear gold rings if the earrings stay platinum. Hardware on glasses, belt buckles, and phone cases counts as metal near the face — match it when you can.
Costume jewelry is allowed. The test is hue, not karat.
Confirm it
The jewelry test is one axis. It will not tell you whether you are Vela Light or Kora Deep. Take the free Find quiz, then Instant House Reading for $39.95, then a live virtual from $195 if you want silk. Instant credits toward that live consult.
Wear the metal your House can hold. Leave the rest for the jewelry box, not the jaw.
Buying new jewelry
Shop metal before gemstone. A Vela client in yellow gold can wear turquoise, coral, or peach moonstone and stay in-House. The same stones in a white-gold prong will cool the face. A Sable client in platinum can wear sapphire, emerald, true ruby, and diamond. The same stones in yellow gold will fight Sable’s ice.
Pearls have a temperature. Cream and golden pearls sit with Vela and some Kora. White-pink and grey pearls sit with Nira. High-contrast white and black pearls can sit with Sable. “I was told pearls are for everyone” is another beige.
If you are replacing a wedding band, do it after a drape if you can. Instant at $39.95 is enough to choose gold versus silver for a small purchase. A live virtual is worth it before you set a lifetime metal.
Glasses, phones, keys
Frames at the eye are a drape. Warm tortoiseshell usually wants Vela or Kora. Black acetate, silver, and crystal usually want Nira or Sable. A gold key at the neckline is a metal. A rose-gold phone is a metal. You do not have to throw them out — just know they count when the face looks off in photographs.
When Instant or a Color Icon names your House, match the jewelry at the ear first. That is the square inch that shows up in every video call. The $39.95 Instant fee still credits toward a $195+ live virtual if you want the drapes under a Color Icon’s eye.
Fan decks at $78 show the same metal logic on chips: Vela’s camel leather and gold-side palettes, Nira’s pewter, Kora’s bronze, Sable’s black leather and ice. If your jewelry box and your fan deck disagree, trust the face, then restock the box.
